The Importance of Pride: In Oneself and in One’s Community
The ability to affirm and dignify oneself represents the achievement of pride over shame and doubt. Individually overcoming feelings of shame, doubt, or inequality is an essential building block for individuals to create the foundation upon which a strong community can flourish. The absence of acknowledging our worth or neglecting the truth that each of us are equal makes it near impossible to grow as a community with one another.
Each of us plays a role in the continuous pursuit of uplifting and empowering one another to be our greatest selves through community. What is the first step in taking on that role? The very first step is having pride in the attributes that are unique to you and only you.
So, let's start small...by having pride in ourselves...pride in our bodies...pride in our abilities and talents...pride in anything and everything that makes each of our individual selves the unique beings that we are. By practicing actively being proud of who, what, and how we are in this world, we mold the foundation for a community. This community has potential to be one that appreciates our differences, but sees its members as equal. This is a community that affirms and dignifies each of its members. This is a community that here, at BB&R, we hope you will build with us.
Let’s work towards having pride in ourselves so that one day soon, we can actively pursue a community rooted in acceptance and love. Now THAT is something of which we can all be proud.
