Yoga for Your Face
Are you feeling like you want to take good care of your face, but also want to age somewhat gracefully? After talking with Dr. Susan Sands, (listen here) we were even more clear that living happily in our aging bodies is beautiful and natural. But it’s also normal in our culture to have concerns about aging. Luckily there is always a happy medium and taking good care of your skin inside and out feels like such a balanced solution to us.
Of course, hydration and clean food are a must, but have you seen all the influencers doing face yoga on social media? It’s not difficult at all, in fact, doing some gentle facial exercises, massage, and facial yoga is really simple and enjoyable. And most importantly, it’s an easy way to keep a youthful healthy appearance without expensive and potentially harmful procedures.
Many of the face yoga techniques have the added benefits of supporting lymphatic drainage and natural detoxification, in addition to diminishing sagging skin and wrinkles. You don’t need any fancy equipment, just gently stretch, exercise, and massage the face and jaws.
If you keep it up daily you can see results like reduced puffiness, and even plumper lip! We love natural safe methods for looking and feeling our best.
Here are some of our favorites we’ve found…
1. Forehead massage. This can be done with or without your favorite moisturizer: Gently massage the eyebrows and forehead starting from the top of your nose ridge outward, repeating multiple times until you feel your forehead muscles slightly relax. Be careful not to pull too much on the delicate skin around the eye.
2. Split your fingers and massage both sides of your jaws in front and behind the ears, up and downward multiple times. This will relax the muscle and support drainage of the lymph nodes just under the jaw area.
3. Squeeze your eyes closed for a count of 10, open your eyes wide for a count of 10, repeat 5 times. This one is especially helpful for sleepy puffy eyes in the morning.
4. Open your eyes and mouth wide, sticking out your tongue and jutting out your chin. Hold it for a count of 5. This is great for helping the blood circulate in the entire face, and throat.
5. Gently purse the lips closed, and press them together and outward with the lip muscle. Repeat 5-10x daily.
Follow up with your normal skin care routine, and remember to drink plenty of water!
