Aviva Romm: Some of the challenges that are inherent in my environment, you know, growing up. But I really see them truly more as gifts and resilience that I learned.

Aviva Romm: We're all people and we're all doing our best.

Aviva Romm: I got exposed to a broader understanding of women's health, the history of women's medicine, the marginalization of women, the marginalization of women of color.

Aviva Romm: I started out going to college to be a physician, and then within one year I was apprenticing to an African-American midwife.

Aviva Romm: I'm a strong believer that part of how health care changes is through economic force.

Aviva Romm: One year I spent doing physics. My son was in college, so we decided to do physics together for a year, which was hilarious.

Aviva Romm: When my husband worked full-time and I was home with the kids, nobody ever came up to me and said, “Oh, he'd never be able to have this career if it weren't for you holding it down with the kids.”

Aviva Romm: Some of the abuses and injustices that as a women, I think sometimes we don't know how to speak truth to power. 

Aviva Romm: The power of advocacy of women lifting each other up and also being there to advocate for each other is probably one of the other big pieces.

Aviva Romm: women who eat more fish and more fruit and vegetables have less inflammation and may be able to reverse a lot of the symptoms of endometriosis and prevent it from progressing.

Aviva Romm: It takes a woman on average four doctors and five years to get a diagnosis.

Aviva Romm: we have a new perspective on this concept of invisible illness.

Aviva Romm: COVID has kicked America, take the world into a stress response, and so many people now are experiencing a lot of anxiety, depression, fatigue, weight gain, immune reactions through both the stress, the loneliness.

Aviva Romm: Our hormones as brilliant and beautiful and incredible as they are, also pose or increase our vulnerability to certain risks.

Aviva Romm: Your thyroid is a little bit like a thermostat in your house.

Aviva Romm: We have to accept being human beings and human bodies, and we're not going to be at a functioning at a perfect 100 percent every minute of the day, every day.

Aviva Romm: It's really about just taking that new approach to life, of letting go of some of the I have to-dos and the eye shades. And being more in the present and calm.

Aviva Romm: I think one of the big shifts of getting older for me is also time has become more precious, so I find myself assessing my relationship to time.

Aviva Romm: If you have people in your life who are nourishing, you spend more time with them.

Aviva Romm: If you can, find something that you're passionate about and really trust it and explore it and invest in yourself.
