Quotes:
“I see the talent and the potential in Montgomery County and it gives me energy. That's when you see me having fun, when I'm thinking about how we can move the county forward.” David Blair
“Somebody early in my career said if you're speaking, you're not learning. The only way you can learn is by listening.” David Blair
“I am trying to earn one vote at a time. When you're running for local politics, that's what you’ve got to do.” David Blair
Show Notes:
David Blair: Before I ran for County Executive, my background was in business. I started a health care technology company in Rockville in the late nineties and built that company up over a 15-year period.
David Blair: Whether it's our schools that are no longer the best in the country, the policy choices that we've made that have made Montgomery County an incredibly expensive place to live, traffic and the congestion that we face every day, or the lack of progress that we've made on climate change, I've seen the county slip.
David Blair: I was blessed to grow up in Montgomery County with the amazing place this is, and it's no doubt because people before me made sacrifices. And so this is very much me paying it forward to the future generations so that they can enjoy the same things that I enjoyed.
David Blair: We're incredibly blessed that we're in a county with such talented people. We've attracted the best and brightest from around the country and really from around the world to live here. And so the culture that I need to help instill is getting things done.
David Blair: Affordability comes up in virtually every discussion I have with residents. And we actually had an event recently and I was chatting with a young woman and she's married and has three children. She works as an administrative assistant. Her husband's a police officer. They have three kids that work two part-time jobs to make ends meet in Montgomery County.
David Blair: It was interesting when I started our business here in Rockville, I didn't know how challenging it was to do business here because I didn't have a perspective. But then over a 15-year period, we had offices in 30 states. And I'm not exaggerating when I say the most difficult place to do business was Montgomery County.
David Blair: It was really scary the first time out meeting with potential voters or in these debates and just not having done it before. I was uncomfortable and so I feel more comfortable in my own skin now. So my guess is if someone was taking my pulse, it would be lower this time around than it was four years ago.
David Blair: We're coming out of this pandemic. And the choice is, are we going to kind of continue with the same old, same old, or are we able to pivot? We can put this county on a new trajectory where we literally are leading the nation and in key areas.
David Blair: When I am talking about local issues, they are neither Republican or Democratic. Independent. Green Party. Libertarian. We all want a good-paying job. We want reliable transportation solutions. We want to breathe clean air and have clean water.
