Show Notes
[3:27] I believe that faith should be recess.
[3:43] I believe that our faith lives should be the refreshing, rejuvenating experience of recess, getting out in the sunshine and being with people you love and playing.
[4:00] God is speaking to us all the time, that if we just can tune in and start to notice, we begin to see these signs of joy and love that we experience even in the midst of challenging times.
[4:57] If I spent my life looking in the rearview mirror, I'm going to get in a car accident. And if I'm only looking over the next mountain, I'm going to trip and fall right now. So I sort of feel that the capacity of living in the present is essential.
[6:03] Prayer is focusing on the beautiful music that's actually around us all the time.
[7:41] If we don't take ourselves too seriously but we take God very seriously, then we have a pretty healthy perspective on things.
[8:10] To be in God is just to be in a sense of being.
[11:10] If I could be as good as my dog is to me, to God, I would be a saint. The dogs teach me how to be a better believer.
[11:54] Complaining about it doesn't make things better, just annoys everybody around us.
[16:03] If we're preparing ourselves for the fullness of love, let's do it by bringing as much love as we can right now, here.
[18:01] The power of praying for those who have gone before us is the most particular gift that we can give them, to surround them with love from behind. And then those in Heaven are calling them forth into that love.
[19:27] When we don't forgive it's a burden that we bear.
[20:04] Love, as Aristotle reminds us, is willing the good of the other without anything expected in return.
[21:54] It's healthy to feel guilty. And then from that, we seek forgiveness, whether it be forgiveness of God or forgiveness of others.
[24:32] Sin is not who we are or bad things we do is not who we are. It's who we're not.
[25:07] Mercy is God taking us from not being fully alive, not being who we are, not who we can be, to fully being who we are.
[27:16] If we put on a uniform of love every day, then the year is going to be a fabulous year.
[30:28] Self-hatred is part of the reason why we see so much ugliness in the world. When ugliness entered the world and hate entered the world, we realized we have an extra charge to love.
[31:06] I only love God as much as the person that I love the least.
