Show Notes
[8:04] I don't think one can go through something like that without being a little more intentional about their prayer life.
[8:44] They wanted to know how I could be peaceful in the midst of a life threatening illness.
[9:36] With more prayer and silent prayer and lots of walks, I sensed God calling me to ordained ministry.
[13:05] Everyone's welcome at the cathedral, which is one of the beautiful things about it; community.
[14:01] We come together as a nation for times of celebration and times of mourning and times of crisis.
[19:26] We've been using lights a lot. During COVID, we'll project things on the facade of the Cathedral, giving shout outs to front line workers.
[20:43] The majesty of the National Cathedral is one of the things that makes me feel closer to God.
[21:19] One of the things I love to witness is when people walk into that space for the very first time and you can just see their jaws drop, and their eyes get wide, and they are just overwhelmed by the awe and the sheer beauty of the place.
[22:04] Some people, even in the midst of this huge space, will find very intimate, tucked away spots where they can give better expression to what they've just experienced, to have a more intimate and quiet experience of God.
[22:51] Depending on what time of day you come, the light come streaming through the stained glass windows and you can watch the different colored light dance on those doves and on the walls.
[25:36] I think that the important thing is to remember those things that keep you grounded and do those faithfully.
[27:17] You have to be still and quiet to get some sort of response and direction.
[27:24] I know meditation is one of the things that you all advise people. And that's so important because it is in those times that we get some sort of a conversation back.

“We do tours, so many people come to see [the National Cathedral]; the gargoyles are popular. I spent half my time when I'm outside pointing out where Darth Vader gargoyle is. But we're doing those tours virtually now." - Jan Naylor Cope
“People experience the sacredness and the spirituality of the [National Cathedral], and
experience something larger than themselves in a way that's meaningful to them." - Jan Naylor Cope
“[The National Cathedral] is a vibrant living place... it's not this museum that we all kind of see, but rather a million people are participating in your Easter services. That's just incredible.” - Tricia Reilly Koch
