Homemade Hummus
Quick and Easy Homemade Hummus
Ingredients:
2 cans Garbanzo beans AKA Chickpeas (drained and rinsed well)
3 tablespoons olive oil
2/3 cup Tahini (make sure to stir your Tahini thoroughly until smooth before measuring out)
2 medium lemons
1 ½ teaspoons salt
6-8 tablespoons of ice water (added 1 tablespoon at a time)
Directions:
1. In food processor or high powered blender add the lemon juice, tahini, salt, olive oil and 1 -2 spoons of ice water (1 spoon at a time)
2. As the paste begins to thicken add your garbanzo beans
3. Then continue to spoon in tablespoons of ice water- a bowl of water with ice cubes works well
4. You may need pause and scrapes the sides of the sauce in to be sure it blends thoroughly
5. Blend for about 5 minutes total
6. Serve in a bowl, garnish with additional olive oil and fresh parsley if desired.
7. ENJOY with your favorite veggies or pita chips.
This is a traditional flavoring style, however to make a truly traditional hummus the recipe would include soaking and cooking dried beans, and removal of the bean husks. Canned beans are just a time saving option that we like and find little difference in the outcome.
Many people also like make their hummus with a couple cloves of raw garlic and a pinch of cumin. We encourage you to have some fun and change up your hummus by experimenting with other flavor options using this recipe as a base. Some ingredients to experiment with are: pine nuts, smoked paprika, roasted garlic, onion powder, avocado, or roasted red peppers.
