Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: An Alternative Treatment For PTSD, Anxiety, Insomnia and Chemo Induced Brain Fog
This week we are featuring a guest post from our partners over at iSynchrony. This new business located in Oakton, VA provides help for PTSD, chemo brain, autism, depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric and neurological disorders. Using a well-established technology, the electroencephalogram (EEG), iSynchrony analyze their patients’ brain wave activity to identify the areas that are “out of sync.” With this data, they create a customized plan to treat psychiatric and neurological disorders utilizing individualized Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (iTMS). "After several combat deployments, veteran Chris W. spent years undergoing treatment for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but found no relief for his persistent anxiety, insomnia and other debilitating symptoms. Not until fellow warriors took him to iSynchrony in Oakton, VA for individualized Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (iTMS), light therapy and counseling did he experience true relief for the first time in years.
“iTMS should be offered to all service members,” said Chris, who said having “pills shoved down my throat” at other clinics only covered up the issues. “iTMS is a true solution – it is giving those who served their lives back.” Chris is just one of the many veterans suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and PTSD who have experienced relief through a novel iTMS protocol for the treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders. Based on the results of an electroencephalogram (EEG) analysis, iTMS directs short magnetic pulses to the area of the brain in need of stimulation to restore balanced brain wave activity.
The protocol, now available on the east coast for the first time at iSynchrony, is also effective for patients suffering from chemotherapy-induced brain fog, insomnia, chronic pain, concussion and post-concussion syndrome, depression, prescription opioid excess (addiction), stroke-related motor impairment and autism. For autism, iTMS may be able to restore normal behavior in up to 50% of patients.
iSynchrony uses FDA-approved electroencephalography and transcranial magnetic stimulation (off-label) technologies to treat multiple neuro-psychiatric and trauma conditions. The painless and non-invasive technology delivers magnetic pulses to the crown of the head that help to realign the brain’s natural frequencies to restore brain health.
“We’ve found a great need for this treatment among both the military and the general public who have found no other relief for anxiety, pain, sleeplessness, and other symptoms of neuropsychiatric disorders,” said iSynchrony co-founder and director Robert D. Silvetz, M.D., who previously served as Chief Science Officer for 3.5 years at the original clinic in California that pioneered an individualized protocol.
“In just weeks, individuals who have almost given up hope of leading happy, high-functioning lives see improvements in cognitive and sensory processing, memory, focus and sleep. And they experience reductions in anxiety, anger, sadness and physical pain.” said, Lorraine Cancro-Silvetz, MSW, who serves as iSynchrony’s other director. As a psychotherapist, she specializes in the treatment of veterans, their families and civilians impacted by PTSD and TBI and other neuropsychiatric disorders.
Anne W. (whose identity has also been withheld due to the stigma around psychiatric issues) has undergone ITMS treatment for the chemo-induced brain fog she acquired while fighting breast cancer. The condition affects thousands of cancer patients whose response to the chemotherapy is permanent confusion, memory loss and inability to focus.
Following 13 daily iTMS treatments, which consist of 30-minute sessions that feel like a gentle tapping above the head (that Anne described as “very relaxing”), she reported, “I work, read and get things done faster. My “brain fog” resolved and I am much happier.”
During a pre-launch phase, numerous patients were treated at iSynchrony for neurological conditions that also included depression, anxiety, lifelong insomnia. Their testimonials and more information about iTMS can be found at www.insynchrony.com. The treatment center is located at 2952H Chain Bridge Road in Oakton, VA in the Hunter Mill Shopping Mall, right off the I-66 at the Oakton Exit."
